Jury service expenses?

Hi, My wife is doing jury service next week. she called the court baliff today to ask permission to use her(my wifes..) car, and was told it would be ok. But the court would only pay £3.70 parking per day, the true cost is £6.00 is this correct? She was also told which car park to use which is a good 20 mins walk and not the closest.

I've told her to use the bus, but it takes nearly 2hrs for the 20 mile journey and shes worried about being late.

Thanks

Query with them again how much it will cost to park and how much they will be paying. They may have an agreement with a specific car park but if this is so then they should know what the costs are.
If on the other hand they are just giving you suggested car parks and there is a maximum they can pay (by law or something similar) then there may be cheaper car parks in the area.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Why should they pay a whack extra to suit someones personal preferences. My view is they should pay the cheapest transport method and meal allowances and that is it which is pretty much what the rules are.

2 Hours to do a 20 mile bus journey also seems ridicolously high. How long does it take in the car?

Agree. Busses are ridiculously inefficient for some journeys.

Is it a park and ride they want her to use?

If she can't do the 20 minute walk, is there a bus she can take from the car park? (which she can then claim).

In Oxford they only let you park in the park and rides, but I either did the 30 minute walk (most appreciated when stuck all day in airless court room!), or I took a bus from car park and claimed it back.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Thanks for the replies,i agree about keeping the expenses to a minimum but feel that the court should be a reasonable distance too. we live in bishops stortford and the court is in the middle of essex about 40 min in a car (not sure about rush hour) also the bus runs 1 an hour via country roads hence the 2 hours. She doesn't understand why she should be out of pocket. Another problem with using the bus is getting the kids to school, we have arranged with friends to do this but don't want to take the mick with an overly early drop off.
    Thanks

Hi, seems that the avised car park is £3.70 per day, but the one next to the court is £6.00. so she'll just have to walk..

She should write a letter and say that if she is out of pocket, she will not vote to convict.

Do you live near a Rail Station?, if so, Chelmsford County Court (as you said it was in the middle of Essex, I will assume this is the one your oh is going to) is about 2 minutes walk from the rail and bus stations.
