Save yourself money and don't even attempt to drink and drive - even a small amount of alcohol can affect your driving judgement.

  • freeloader .... don't think it's as simple as that ... this is very much about trying to help and teach our teenagers .

i'm actually thinking about the "day after" situation .

neither of them take the car the evening if they're having even one drink.

but if they have had a bit of a heavy night out ... i'm very unsure of their "real condition" at 8am....10am...noon...etc the day after.

that's what i'm wanting to check.

OK, but still dangerous to rely on it for anything other than as an educational tool

Also, aside form the warnings re:drinking and driving, these gadgets are useless and are not sensitive enough to tell you when you are near the limit. There have been several high-profile incidences of people using these things (either after a jar or two, or the morning after), getting into their car and driving off, only to end up on a drink-drive charge.

The police breathalisers are highly sensitive pieces of kit, require regular calibration to ensure they work.

If you buy a state-of-the-art one similar to the one the police use and have it calibrated regularly, then yes. However, that will cost...

    www.scan.co.uk sell the also.

As for acuracy who knows, my mate got pulled a few years ago the following afternoon/evening after a night out and ended up walking for a year and now paying higher insurance premiums.

There is also the thing if you use this after a night out and get pulled could you go after the makers? I expect they will have a disclaimer on the device or packaging. also if the police found out you had prevously tested yourself would that not give them somthing to say that you had a suspision you were over the limit?

You can not negate criminal responsibility. It's your decision to drive, no one elses.
