Salary requirements?? Help!!

Just seen a job inthe paper in my industry (miracle for down here). It says to email a cv and covering letter to the boss with your salary requirments?! I have no idea!!

I've been working in this industry for 3 years but my first job was 12k as it was a step on the ladder and my next job was 17k but he was known for paying well (made you work for it though as was an !!!!!!). Ideally I'd like 14-15k but at the moment I'd be happy with 12-13k! (just want a job:().

Any tips??

maybe you could put circa 15k, but you could add that you're prepared to be flexible when considering the package as a whole (such as holiday entitlement, pension, any other perks/bonuses)?

    As wuckfit said.

Personally speaking I hate these adverts that don't specify salary and ask people to state their salary requirements and I never bother applying.

It's a great ploy as you get to see what the person values themself at; a very interesting learning experience and test. It's amazing how many people with little or no experience and qualifications think they should be earning top whack.

I also hate them but I'm desperate for a job and to find one local to me thats actually what I studied for is a miracle, so it's worth a go!!

I suggest adding 20% to what you were most recently earning.

Alternatively, you can ring up and ask for a 'salary indicator' they will sometimes tell you the ballpark max figure they are willing to pay. This has saved me the bother of applying on a couple of occasions, when the max was less than current salary.

Sadly, my experience is that organisations that do not specify even a salary range in the advertisement are poor payers.

Normally I never answer that question and if pushed I put either "market rate" or "negotiable"

I do think it usually works both ways though as it saves you the hassle of having to interview for a role you wouldn't even want as it pays too low. I'm in a similar position as the OP though in that I really want a job and would accept less than I was previously on so it makes it harder to answer. You don't want to put them off but you also don't want to pitch too low and let them take advantage. Good luck

Translated. Salary: as little as we can get away with.

    Good one I found is:

As per your request, an acceptable salary range for this job, based on the description and my research, is £xx,xxx - £xx,xxx. My requirement is flexible and negotiable, depending on such factors as additional benefits, salary reviews, and increased advancement opportunities.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
