Is there any point in them, and if yes, what is the best way to deal with them?
How to you get the !!!!!!s to actually give you some work?

Hi I'm not sure what you mean by is there any point to them? Most of my jobs are contracted through agencies, and I much prefer working through them (Ltd) than staying in the same job for 20 -30 years, I like the variety and the new skills I learn along the way, also improves my CV no end and actually end up being paid much more money than I would doing the same job if employed direct by the organisation itself ..Though I do intend to get a perm job further down the line - it suits my life style perfectly!
What sector are you looking at? I can then help point you in the right direction.
What I do recommend when dealing with agencies is go in meet the consultant face to face so they know who you are rather than a name on a piece of paper (they usually invite you in anyway after receiving your CV to register you fully) also building up your working relationship with the consultant helps (this also helps the consultant keep a good client base. Also it is boring I know..but they receive CV's all the time, so don't let them forget about you KEEP EMAILING/CALLING them every 1-2 weeks for updates so they won't forget you when a good job comes in!!!"£$%^&*()0 -
I've heard/read some rather negative things about them.
The sector I'm looking at is legal or anything related.Leftie and proud :beer:0 -

I would adopt a better attitude than that for a start! They are a business, not the jobcentre. If you go around with a chip like that on your shoulder, it will be spotted a mile away.
You have to prove to them that you are the best person to put in front of their client.
And it would help to realise that you will be about the 50th person to approach them that day when there may be only 3 jobs available right now so a bit of patience will also help.

You may have heard negative things about them but shouldn't you make your own mind up? At the end of the day they are trying to help you find work how can that be negative?
Try some of big recruitment companies that cover legal vacacnies such as:
hays.co.uk
reed.co.uk
badenochandclark.com
theres plenty of agencies out there just do a search through google.!"£$%^&*()0
