Powder foundation and dry skin

Does anyone think the powder foundations are OK for very dry skin? I am tempted by the convenience but don’t want my skin to look flaky or older as I am 48. I am tempted to try the Clinique almost powder make up but don’t want to buy it and end up regretting it as I can’t afford to keep wasting money.

I have dry skin and sometimes excema, I'd recommend mineral foundation possibly, I think they're less drying, and you don't have to pay out loads either.

I always moisturise 1st, only takes maybe 30 seconds and means it sits better and goes on more evenly.

I find they just show up as being cake-like no matter how little I apply! I have vey dry skin and find powder shows up any fine lines and just looks odd on me no matter how I apply my moisturiser before hand.

But thats my experience, it could work for you if thats the look your going for, see if you can get a cosmetics counter to show you how to apply the stuff.

I used to use powder foundations but fancied a change in looks, when I did I used extra moisturiser and let it really sink in before applying either Estee Lauder Doublewear (expensive but so worth it) or as a cheaper alternative Avon Anew, I found the Avon one to be excellent but not quite up to EL, a good tip is to slightly dampen the sponge (you need a good professional quality sponge not the rubbish they come with, with the exception of EL) and apply, this will mean you use less product but get good lasting coverage with no caking or settling in fine lines:)
Thank you for this site Martin

I have dryish skin and I use powder. I moisturise first and after that has sunk in then I apply powder. Then to stop that old fashioned powdery look, I tightly wring a face cloth out in cold water and dab on my face. Leaves a nice finish. :)

I don't use the mineral powder as I find the finish too heavy. I have a friend that does though and she mixes it with talcum powder!
