A&L Loan/Global Debt Can I reclaim my PPI?

Hi, I'm new to the site.
I just wondered if anyone could advise me off a situation.
I took out a loan with A&L back in 2002, then had additional loan top up in 2003’ unfortunately I was diagnosed with clinical depression and fell behind on payments. This was then referred to Global debt agency acting on behalf off A&L. Although I couldn’t pay the full monthly repayment I managed £180 a month paid for about 4 years, although they still stated my account was in arrears.
Despite my depression they didn’t give much consideration to my account. I thought my loan protection would have covered me...clearly not.
The loan was settled last year through a one off payment (March 2009). I’ve heard alot of talk about reclaiming PPI, couple off problems I have, I don’t have the original contract/paperwork from A&L, I was a tad naive back in 2002!!
Would i stand any chance off claiming PPI back, even though I paid a lump settlement to global debt to settle the account. If so could anyone advise me what to do? I honestly feel i was led to believe i would have been covered, but obviously not.

Regards in advance.
