Does anyone know where I get can fabric samples from?

Heya all.:o

As the title says really. We're getting our bridesmaid dresses made and we really need some samples to we can decide on the colour and fabric.

I've done a google search but most of things that came up were furnishing fabrics.:o

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.:o

The seamstress making your dresses should be able to provide samples, or if not she should be able to point you in the direction of suppliers she uses.

Most GOOD seamstress/dressmakers will have samples of fabric or should be able to get some.

    ;)
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

If you are having them made then a good seamstress should have an extensive fabric portfolio. Without sounding patronizing, many fabrics aren't suitable for certain jobs so sending a client out if she has very little idea of what fabric to use isn't really good practice as she may find the colour but it woun't be suitable. You then get a frustrated bride on your hands when the shade simply cannot be sourced.
If you do have some knowledge then fabricland are great for free samples and cheapfabrics charge £1.00 per sample.

    Thanks everyone.

It's a friend of OH's mum who is making the dresses and OH's mum has been ordering samples (at the request of the dressmaker I think =/) but none of them are what we want.

To be honest, OH's mum is taking over a bit. It seems to be about the colour and fabric that her and her daughter (one of my bridesmaids) want. No one is even communicating with me, but that's a whole other complaint!

I think you can ring John Lewis in London and they will send you samples - think you may have to pay postage. They will also post the fabric too you if you buy it.

That's what my mum did as she made my wedding dress. We went there and saw the fabrics we liked and then they posted them.

Also, depending on where you are, you could go to a good local fabric shop - not sure if you have a C&H fabrics near you - think they are only down south.

Oh my, would you? That would be of great help.:)

I need teals ideally but greens and turquoises would be okay as apparently teal is hard to come by.:)

Thank you so much Linda. :)
