Wedding guest - help required!

I don't usually wear dresses. Well, I have for the last 2 weddings I've been to, but usually, it's not for me, so I wanted some advice from (probably) seasoned wedding guests. Sorry that this isn't entirely in the right place, but I will be contributing more to this board as a whole as the year progresses
Now, I've always known white isn't REALLY ok to wear for weddings... possibly it is if you ask the bride first, and if it's patterned enough.
Black - again, pure black isnt really good. But how about this in either white or black? (I'm thinking black). It's a day wedding (late afternoon though) followed by an evening party.

Reckon it's acceptable? thinking black bag, shrug and maryjane shoes in MSE style (I've already got 'em!)
I've spent £80 on a fab 50's purple dress recently so quite keen to keep the cost down while not repeating myself too much (facebook is a pain for this!!!)

I think the dress is lovely! Really fresh and pretty. It would be just fine for a wedding, but rather than black acessories why not silver or gold or even a colour like red to brighten it up? Unless, of course, you already have the accessories in which case go for it!!If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0

I'd probably chose the black and, as joho says, accessorise it with silver.
Lovely dress :-)From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
Sorry, the white one came up and I didn't register the black one! Doh. It's bedtime!! I prefer the white for a summer(y) wedding. But they're both lovely! If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0

The white one... and i agree that you should add a splash of colour somewhere... red cardi or purple or something? Maybe just a pashmina or something? That dress would look ace with a red cardi and red shoes!!!! or even just no cardi, red shoes and red bag
i love black, white and red lol... but any other bright-ish colour would look cool! Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
My vote goes white and I'm with bigmomma in going for red or a bright pink to accessorise shoes, bag etc. New Look often have some really nice bright shoes on cheap and you can pick up a small clutch bag or something for just a few quid easy enough.
