Can anyone give me some details or advice on working for a bank?
Main reason being, as I've just applied to work with one.
Many thanks.

Worked for RBS call centre through a temping agency, if that is of any help?
Not bad training given, hammer in things like data protection and verifing customers ID to you a lot.
Usually have to be smart mon-thu, casual at weekends.
As you expect everything is taken seriously with targets to meet, and team bonuses and rules change every week it seems.
Got any specific questions maybe people can help more?
Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there! :cool:0 -

Thanks Marisa.
Well basically it's a Banking Sales Advisor role. I currently have a knowledge in sales as I work for a mobile phone company. Have gone through a recruitment agency, so had to explain a few bits to her and then I've gotta wait for a call from her to see if Natwest think I'm suitable for the role. My CV will then be passed on to them.
Fancied a change from my current sales role and move into something more stretching and hopefully more rewarding.0 -

From my exp if the agency happy with you and faxing your CV over it is almost a dead cert you have the role (don't want to jynx it for you tho
)
Don't know much about that role, but bet it is probably very similar to mobile phone sales, products different, systems different but still selling is selling in the end. Impress during training best you can, same when on the job, wait until the agency contract runs out and hope the bank make you their employee then start looking at internal promotions.
I hope it is more challenging for you, but remember agencies are earning money off your back so they will make a job sound fantastic, with tons to learn and progression and anything you want to hear. Then you turn up and it is a call centre job like anyother really. Just my exp.

Yeah, the recruitment lady did tell me on the phone that it is a very stretching role.
I'd like to opportunity to push myself and earn more money than I currently am.
I also feel there is more room for promotion, more room to climb the ladder in a bank than in my current business.0 -
After 19 1/2 years the only thing I can say is DON'T!!!!! most people want to get out..........:eek:0

I used to work for RBS too. You have to meet your targets, be professional at all times and work within the FSA rules and regulations all of which will be explained to you at induction/training. If you want to get the job you need to do well on the assessment day/experience day, where they will judge your ability and how you interact with others. Though if its a call centre job then brace yourself for the boredom involved in cross-selling products on the phone 5 days a week!0

If you have the gift of the gab, and good selling skills then go for it. The targets are very challenging, and performance closely monitored. i worked in a bank for 16yrs as a manager - hubby is a financial adviser there still. you've nothing to lose by trying it - ive had staff start as cashiers who were hopeless as that, but excelled as sales staff - also had sales staff who didnt do well, but thrived in an admin role - tho they are few and far between now. good luck.0
