How do you get back into a fitness routine?

Google '30 day shred' and see if you like the sound of it; it's a DVD from Gillian Michaels and is only a 21minute workout. There are 3 different levels, each of which you do for 10 days (or until you are ready to move up). It's very intensive (I've never sweated so much in my life!) but really effective; lots of before and after pictures on blogs. Could be ideal for you to do either on days you don't want to go to the gym/instead. You can try watching it here.0

Thanks, I will have a look when I get the chance to - will more than likely be lunch time.yeayyy!!
well done Kayleigh!! :j:j:beer::T
Thanks!I did 30 mins of Pilates last night too - now I am aching. Pilates really hits the spot! I am quite impressed with how flexible I am still - in comparison to my sister!
Got to just keep this up now, if I can get something else to do so that I can alternate between the Pilates/Wii fit and Gym, then I will be well away!!Became Mrs C on 14th of August 20100 -
Can you pencil a time of day to suit for 30 minutes, tick it off then after 10 days ticked off, allow yourself an inexpensive MSE, non calorie laden treat as a reward. Then repeat.:)
If you do the housework, that also counts as exercise and you have a clean house at the end.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
I am going to do some kind of routine where I write it down and stick to it. I will make my own little circuit up for the week. See what I can come up with! I will have to decide which day I want my rest day will be.
I still live at home, and my Mom is Kim & Aggie rolled into one... she HAS to do the housework everyday, usually before I get home from work, so I never get a say in it!
I'm sure I can do a few stomach crunches while she hoovers around me though :-) hehe.Became Mrs C on 14th of August 20100 -
Interval training is the most time effective way of going - instead of running steadily for 45 mins, speed up and slow down - it makes your heart work faster.
When I don't want to go I bargain with myself - just go the gym, if you really can't be arsed when you get there - go home. Just get changed - if you really can't be arsed once you're changed, go home. Once that hurdle is over, just walk for 5 minutes, if you really can't be arsed after that - go home etc. I ususally manage a full session in the end, once you get there you just get into it but on the odd occasion I do go home - it needs to be not too much of a chore.0 -

I second that! Did the 30 Day Shred for a month before my hols last year and lost three inches off my waste and half a stone (eating sensibly too). Joined a gym this week to get in shape again but will be cancelling after a rubbish service (which I've posted in another thread). Might scrap the gym idea and dust off the Shred DVD. It only takes 25 minutes and it really does make you sweat like you wouldn't believe. I found it got boring after a month but for quick toning up it's the best.0 -

Thanks! I have just looked it up, going to get one once I have been paid and then do it everyday throughout July and then see what the results are. It will be interesting to weigh myself before I start and then not weigh myself after just to see how I get on. Should be good!Became Mrs C on 14th of August 20100 -
the more you go, the better you get into it and enjoy it and even get addicted, as you enjoy the feeling of getting fitter and seeing your body change. if you miss days out your fitness declines. i would advise just get straight back in there and go for it
dont think about it too much. dont think...just do.
do lots of classes that involve as much cardio as poss to shred the body of fat and lean yourself out.
then do resistance training- walking up hill on a gradient, on the bike on a high level,
and involve weights, light reps 3sets of 12, increasing the weights til you feel you cant do anymore. its ok stripping the body of fat with cardio but if you arent doing weights, the muscles underneath wont be as toned
i agree with the earlier posts, get down to jjb and treat yourself to some nice gym stuff, new season womens adidas stock is loverly and well fitting and supportive and makes you feel better then tescos old mingy trakkies that youve had for years.
and get the ipod on, i get so bored if i 4get to take mine
in terms of food- eat as little packaged / processed stuff as you can, so lots of protein lean meats chicken, ham , turkey, salads, fruit. i loosely follow atkins which is low in carbs high in protein. carbs are much worse then fats.
the high i get of it is amazing as processed crap isnt natural.
this will help your fitness and weight loss.
good luck:)

Just to add to the above- please don't worry about missing the odd day off the gym, it has been tested that your fitness levels don't decline if you take the odd week or two off the gym, longer then that could do but exercise addiction can be quite a serious thing and if you feel your life has been swallowed up by a compulsion to be at the gym/fear of gaining weight or losing fitness then please get some help.
Exercise to enhance your life, not to rule your life- you only get one life to live.0 -
i dont mean addicted in a bad way, but in a good and very healthy way were you enjoy the feeling, as many dont, they see it as a chore going to the gym. you have to go regularly to get that feeling, not just twice a week.
thats where you see results.
and fitness levels do go down, my 3 friends are personal trainers, however this is only when you train hard and regularly. not just as and when.0
