Can they do this

Halifax have today taken some money from a current account £400 to pay some arrears that I have on two of their credit cards.

Have they acted correctly because although I am 2 mths in arrears I have been in communication from the start and have answered all phone calls.

I think they are acting irresponsibly and that just taking money from an entirly diffen account without my permission is not helping matters and just a nasty approach to genuine financial difficulty.

If that is there attitude then how can they expect to resolve a persons financial situation as it only feeds anger and resentment.

Don't know mate, but last year HSBC transferred £800.00 from my personal to business a/c to cover the unauthorised overdraft. I did not know this, until five days later, when a letter arrived. In the meantime, I had gone into the bank and paid a cheque from my personal a/c to my business a/c. Result - my personal a/c went into overdraft and two direct debits were not paid.
Bank explained that they could move money between the 2 accounts, as I was sole account holder. Probably same logic? for cc.

yes they can do this, you will probably find that its included in the T&Cs you signed when you acquired the accounts.

if you have several debts and are going to default on them you should consider opening a new bank account with an institution that you owe no money to and move your income to it.

Perhaps the lesson is always have joint accounts ,looks like they would commit an unlawful act if the removed monies without the consent of the non debter. Because the cards are in your name and the bank account. It is still unhelpful ,would not it have been better to communicate with you ,it will be some insensitive member of staff ,who needs communication skills update. Another lesson is always have a standby account with another bank ready ,do this in advance ,because no -one ever knows when lady luck will desert them
