If you go direct to a lender doesn't the KFI state that they have not offered whole of market advice. A KFI is required prior to signing up to a mortgage product. I don't think you have any valid claim.

I have taken out mortgages directly with the Halifax and Britannia in the past and on both occasions they have pointed directly to this wording in the KFI. With the Britannia (not sure with with Halifax) I had to sign a form stating that I understand that I have not received whole of market advice and if I needed it I should seek an independent advisor.

    Thanks again everyone.

Just to state the Halifax representaive DID say that we would be better off with them as they were a high street lender and Kensington were not.

    Cheers LeOn
In general that argument does stand up. Your real problem is that you went from a BoE tracker to a fixed deal, precisely at the time you would have been better staying with a tracker.

    Leon

Can you confirm when exactly you re-mortgaged as it appears from your OP to be 2006/7? This will help paint what the situation was at the time re fixed v tracker etc.
