I chose the NHS. It may be unpopular but if it was streamlined and wasn't so top heavy with managers managing managers the money saved could be spent on front line services. And keeping the wards clean.

I too chose the NHS, but for a different reason. Many of the nurses etc. register with agencies they then ring in sick when they have agency work. The work they do for agencies? covering other nurses at other hospitals.
The NHS pays the agencies far more than the cost of a nurse etc. for this service.

    So the NHS pays;
    1. Sickness pay
    2. Agency fees
All for the same cover. This can cost 3 times the actual cost of employing a nurse!!!

So I say stop employing agency workers....and save a fortune.

If you think our MP's are bad now, wait until you start paying them just £25K and then see what sort of people end up running the country. Its a demanding job with long hours and flipping hard work. What do they get for it now, about £60k. I wouldnt do it for that much let alone £25K!

Im sick of this witch hunt about MPs, their expenses etc. People just cant stand to see anyone getting something they havent got.

The gambling tax is a good idea and should definately be applied to the billions made on hedge funds and currency betting which is often the source of currency and market fluctuation anyway.
long hours maybe.but long holidays and very good perks certainly.out of interest what part of the country are you MP for?

I agree with what Amy21 says about people scamming benefits and having all the latest gadgets (more than hard working tax payers) is unfair. I think child benefits should only be given for the first 2 children (except in cases of multiple births). This would stop theifs having 7 children and living in mini mansions in the lap of luxury FOC from tax payers pockets.

This may be controversial, but single teenage mums, should not get their own little flat/ house. They should be in a shared house/dormatory and there could be a matron there who can make sure the babies are being cared for correctly - maybe teach the youngsters how to care for their babies. I have heard young girls saying how they hate living at home and want to get preganant to get their own place - this would stop that foolishness and government money.

Regarding law & order - prisoners should be made to work and pay for their own meals/keep. I know that this would never happen as even though they may be evil murderers, rapists, etc etc they have "human rights". I watched a documentary and these criminals actually were given £200 on leaving prison to set up life and get sorted. Needless to say all featured where back inside with a month - some only days. £200 of government money well spent? Think of all the prisoners how much this acumilates to....

All overseas aid. There is no reason for us to give money away until our own debts are completely resolved

  • Yes, I agree so strongly I've registered just to back you. Stick with this and we can all win.
The real reason our agricultural subsidies are so generous is they benefit those enormously rich landowners in the House of Lords
who are busy clearing "real" farming tennents off their land to grab all the cash for themselves.

We also pay them for windfarms, countryside access, wildlife setaside, water projects, mobile masts, pylons and ...coming soon... carbon credits.
These same landed gentry have also arranged their tax and ownership affairs so they contribute nothing, not even the death duties/inheritance tax we all have to pay.
Make them pay tax, take away their handouts and reward "real" farmers who will be able to buy their own land and contribute.

Farmers subsidies, again introduced to help farmers grow more food to feed the nation, Farmers should not be financially supported, they get a handout for just about everything they do, most of them have gleaming new equipment but continue to winge about how hard the job is, I spoke to a "farmer" recently and he told me he had retired & rented out his farm, he said that the Single Farm Payment, I quote" "takes me and the missus on 2 or 3 nice holidays a year" They are nothing but a bunch of benefit scroungers who think they do a worthwhile job, if farmers all shut down tomorrow we would not notice the difference! if they need subsidies to run a business then they are kidding themselves that they are businessmen.
Pull the subsidies and the "real" farmers will survive.

    Bad luck.
This is not "Government" spending our government cannot cut it.
    It is supra government spending.
You had your chance to vote UKIP.
I explain most of it here:

You could also argue that our taxes should not be going to foreign countries anyway. People with money to give away should be able to have control themselves over where it goes (which specific countries it goes to etc).

Despite economic pressures, the average Brit is still extremely wealthy compared to people in the developing world. Aid to these countries is essential not discretionary. Check out the website below - it is very enlightening and may change your outlook

Stop nuke submarine development. What we have are capable of ending civilisation, why do we need to keep improving? Terrorism is where the real problems are and nuke missiles won't help stop that.
