Hi,

I hope I am allowed to post this thread here as if nothing else I will use this as my personal motivation tool.

I have been on a quite incredible journey over the last few years from a personal tragedy to huge financial worries.

Thanks to many people (on here as well) especially my partner who has given me total love and support I am about to start another, nicer journey.

I lost my sister to cancer in May 2005 which was a devastating blow. At the same time I was made redundant and trying to sell my house because of the huge debt that I was in. In total, about 64k !!!

After selling my house and clearing about 27ks worth of debt, I sat down depressed, out of work and 37k left to pay off.

I spent some time lurking on these boards and reading about people in far worse situations than me and dealing with their debts. It was quite an inspiration but took a while before I had my LBM.

I had just moved in with my OH and felt it was time for a 40 year old to face his responsibilities and if nothing else, get everything out in the open.

The date of that was June 25th 2005, a Saturday. The day after I had received a letter that I was soon to be working again:). I locked my self away and faced all the unopened letters that I had ignored for years.

By the end of that day I had either written or spoken to everyone that I owed money. It really was a fantastic day. I showed my OH everything and there were a few tears of guilt, embarrassment and shame.

Every creditor listened, I got interest frozen, repayments agreed and some cheques written. A colossal weight had been lifted from my shoulders and I was on my way to becoming debt-free !

Fast forward five years and I am currently 15 days from being debt free (I owe £66.97), have some savings in the bank, am earning great money after getting a big promotion at work (which entailed a years full time training/studying) and will shortly be celebrating five years with my employer.

All I have to do is get fit and lose some weight - at 5'10" and 15st 8 lbs I am what you may call a 'big lad' (rugby player and everything that it entails) so to celebrate becoming debt free I have revamped my diet and exercise plan.

This started for real last week with an overhaul of my food intake, not only shrinking it but eating healthier !!

All I needed was some exercise routine, I regularly play golf and walk the dog but wanted something a bit more intense as I have now stopped playing rugby. I also work shifts which isn't good for eating sensibly.

After some research I found EA Sports Personal Trainer for the Wii and have just had my first workout and god I am knackered !!:D It is excellent and a proper workout which really gets you moving.

So on day one of the rest of my life, I am 15st 8lbs and my first target is to lose the odd eight pounds.

Apologies for the length of this post but I did say it was self indulgent !!

I shall report back maybe once a week but please feel free to criticise, encourage, give me tips and join me in my journey of 'One man and his Wii.'

Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
