Tesco clubcard coupon issue

First post here, decided to finally register to get this question answered.
I received my Tesco clubcard statement last week and in it were some coupons that were along the lines of "Spend £20 in store get £3 off" etc.
Today I filled up with petrol at tesco (lichfield) and tried to use the coupon when paying (i had spent over £20) but they wouldn't accept it even after after some discussion
.
I believe they should have because on the back it says it's not accepted for Esso fuels but nothing about Tesco petrol, and I know that another tesco store (telford) said they do accept them on fuel.
Am I right that the "get £3 off when you spend £20 in store" type vouchers are valid on petrol, or is that just hopeful thinking??

the Esso ones have always been seperate , think Tesco split the sales , esso get the petrol sale and spin off from having a Tesco store on their forecourtEx forum ambassador

I've always found it hit and miss - some accept them others don't (and I'm talking about non Esso). I think if they say no, you're not going to get anywhere.0

i think the bits in bold make it quite clearReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
Reads as if it is just in store, but what you could do is to phone the Clubcard points (freephone ) helpline and ask them to clarify the situation. You never know ,if you are polite, pleasant etc....they may give you a few points as a 'sorry'. Always worth a try!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Maybe, but those are promotional vouchers - they may use Clubcard's database of names & addresses etc., but otherwise nothing to do with Clubcard i.e. if you had lost one - they can't arrange another.
The Customer Service 0800 505555 may be able to clarify T & C's and give feedback to any stores not accepting them within those terms.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
My local Tesco garage scans these with no problem.
Others query it but accept the voucher after a discussion.
There are a couple of garages that have akward staff .So I give these a miss.
I believe these coupons are legit to use on fuel though.
Someone on paidtoshop may be able to help.0 -
It is a bit hit and miss, some will accept some won't.
I rang up the clubcard helpline twice, first time they said no, the second time said yes and gave me 240 points as a gesture of goodwill:T so i'm happy with that.0
