I bought the cross cut one from woolies over a year ago last time it was reduced to £14.99. I've use it loads and it's been excellent.

Mine quite often overheats if I do a lot of shredding and stops for a few minutes until it cools down, then starts again...

That's called a safety feature - it stops you torching your house ;) :money:

We have a big muffa from Rymans... Our old cheapy 5 sheet one took to long to use. This one also does cards and CDs etc...

well, like earlier person I have the 15 quider from Tesco (was £20) and it is very good (for private use).

does 5 sheets and looks pretty nice too.

    worth a look?
  • I have used both expensive and cheap shredders and all have limit on how long you can run them continuously. My experience has been if you use one persistantly for longer than recommended they do stop working prematurely. Also the ones with auto start can stop working if you damage the toggle switch. The other gotcha is shredding credit cards, the Woolworths one is rated to shred one per session. I assume the session is related to the maximum continuous use limit, but the user guide was a bit vague.

I bought a Woolworth's one this year and the one I have is rated for around 3 minutes continuous use. This information is in the user guide and not helpfully printed on the device itself or the box (so far as I could see). By observing the time limit my last two shredders have lasted as long as my first super expensive one and shreddered loads more. Both shredders are still working well just located in different places.

So if you are trying to decide whether or not to buy, have a quick read of the user guide, the longer the continuous use time is, the better. Especially if you have a lot of stuff to shred.
