Am I too keen?

Last week I sent my CV off for a job that I have lots of experience in. I hadnt heard anything so rang on Friday to make sure they'd recieved it, I also rang this morning and around 2pm today. I was told all 3 times that the manager wasnt in, on the last call the receptionist took my number and said she'd ask her manager to ring me.

I know its only just over a hour but I still havent heard anything and Im already thinking the worst as I checked and the job has now gone from the website it was advertised :(

She I call again later in the week if I dont hear anything or should I just get the hint?

If you are over-eager, then you may just have cost yourself a job. Some companies take several weeks to get back to you.
I applied for a job the day I got my 1-weeks notice, the company concerned only contacted me for an interview 4 weeks later.
The longest I ever had between application & interview was 3 months.

If you keep ringing, your name will become known for all the wrong reasons. Making sure they have received it is fine, ringing twice a day is not. Ringing after a couple of weeks is also OK, but not quite so soon.

They could have billions of CVs. It takes time to shortlist if you are doing it properly. You also have to be very careful about fairness as you are doing it, and talking to any of the applicants in that time is not to be encouraged as it could promote allegations (maybe unfounded) of bias.

If I were on the other end of this, you'd have put me off you by now though, so there would be a bias..... sorry!

you can definitely be too keen - it's good to show you're interested, but you don't want to seem desperate - a bit like a new boyfriend i reckon :)

i think maybe presume you've cost yourself this one, but certainly leave them alone now - if they want to meet you, they have your details and will be in touch.

    Thanks everyone.

When I rang on Friday I was told to ring this morning by one of the receptionists, then this morning I was told to ring after 2pm. Neither time did they ask for my name so hopefully that'll save me!

I will leave it for now but Ive applied for a job before only to find out 6 weeks later that they never recieved my CV which is why I called.

    Fingers crossed anyway!

ahh thats good that they never took your name - although you said the receptionist took your number, and presumably your name? which means they now have your CV and know you have called in - at least once.

if you do want to call again, i'd give it, say, 10 days? and i would just say "I was just enquiring about the xyz vacancy - I sent in my application/cv on abc and wanted to check you had received it, and whether the role is still available?"
