I am 33 weeks pregnant
Put in a flexible working form about 3 months ago
No reply at all to this
Been told the office is shutting and we are getting made redundant
Been to an individual consultation meeting.
Raised quite a few concerns and was then told I would not be made redundant until the end of my Mat leave.
Concerns brushed under the carpet.
Going to now raise an official grievance. Been told my flexible working cant be accepted as my job is being moved to a different part of the country. My plan was to only take 6 weeks mat leave and work from home the rest of the time.
When I raise my grievance am I allowed to ask for x amount of money to compensate me for not being able to work form home?

Have the shown precidance in letting people work from home before? If not then I can't see why they would allow it if it is going to affect business operations (which it would have considering you part is being made redundant). The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

You can't work flexibly/ at home with current employer after maternity leave as you won't be employed by them then.
Make sure you get all the redundancy pay you are entitled to."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

The purpose of a grievance is for you to make a complaint and request for things to be put right.
Employment tribunal is where you get compensation, but only if you can demonstrate that the company breached employment law, contract law, or discriminated against you.
Just because you don't agree with their decision it does not mean that you are entitled to compensation.0 -

You have no right to work from home, therefore are not entitled to compensation. You only have the right to ask - which you have done - and your employer has the right to say no if it doesn't fit in with the business need - which it doesn't.0 -

I'd suggest the first thing you do is get onto the ACAS website and learn why, when and how you raise a grievance or you are going to look mighty foolish when you approach your employer.0 -
When is everyone else being made redundant?
I suspect the answer to that will be 'a lot sooner than the end of my maternity leave'. In which case your employer are being more than fair by offering to keep you on until the end of your maternity leave before they make you redundant.
Any claim for reasonable working etc is completely irrelevant - the role is redundant. Sorry.0 -
Just to make a point regarding flexible working. The only rights you have is to apply for flexible working, you actually do not have a right to flexible working, whether you get it or not is upto your employer and what impact it may or may not have on the business.0

Where would your baby have been while you were working from home? If the answer is at home with you then you would not have been working and I can see why your employers would be less than keen!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
How could they let you work flexibly if they've already making you redundant? Sorry, I don't get it.0

Thanks for the replies.
I don’t think I am being clear.
I don’t have an issue with it being refused. The issue I have is I submitted this application 3 months ago and never received as much as an acknowledgement letter. When I handed my form in my line manager said she was sure she would find us something.
This isn’t the only issue I have. When I was told I was being made redundant this was fine, I expected it!!! During my first consultation I was asked if I wanted to take my redundancy before or after my Mat Leave as I need the money to see me through living on Stat mat leave.
I then brought up the following issues
1. Flexible working form never answered (not following policy & procedures)
2. Job vacancy advertised externally only (company policy not followed) this stopped several people getting the chance to apply for the position
Due to me raising these issues during my consultation meeting - I was then pulled in to the office and told I would not be made redundant until the end of my mat leave - which they know I don’t want (supposedly to protect themselves)
Oh and to top it off I have just noticed that my Mat leave has never been approved yet!!!0
