is there a way I can pay back automatically each month between banks-help!

ok, Im currently paying money from my current Solo RBS account every month into the one I (obviously) owe money to, which is an ex-Switch student account from the BOS/halifax. I have to go up each month to do so, but I am wondering if there was a way to do this transaction automatically without having to travel each month to the same banks?

Since the account im taking the money from is only a solo card and not a standard credit card, im assuming I cannot do this transaction online between banks? Even if I could, according to the RBS a £5 minimum fee (or over 2% fee) would apply, which obviously would not be worth it-id be (almost) cheaper getting a taxi! Is there any other way I can pay the money from my RBS solo into my Halifax account each month without having to make the journey or have to pay transaction costs? I am just wondering as I may be going on a short holiday soon (not at my expense), and so wasnt sure if transactions between banks from a solo were at all possible-thanks for any info

Can you do this via phone banking? Phone up RBS and say you would like to make transfers by phone to your BOS account, can you set it up to do so. I am not too up on the technical bits of types of bank account, but I do know that for mine (a basic account, like your RBS one) I can set that up.

Usually as long as you have an account number and sortcode you will be able to do any transfer, either in branch, by phone or online.

I've never heard of anything like that fee you've mentioned.... Do you have access to any online banking? Even if you just use it to check balances, if not why not register for it and see what services are available. What they've told you about that fee doesn't seem right at all, I'd ask someone else next time you were in. Your alternative is to phone direct banking and get them to do it over the phone.

Can't you ask them to set up a standing order? Then you'd never have to touch it again, it'd just send every week.

I will add that if you can't get this resolved I'd switch banks as this certainly isn't common practice for basic accounts.... I really hope someone's just given you rubbish advice in the branch or been confused about what you're asking and that you get this solved soon :)

There are a number of ways you could do this actually:

    a) If the amount/date is fixed every month, you could set up a standing order
    b) Use digital banking to do manual, one-off transfers yourself
    c) Use direct banking (telephone banking) and let staff do transfers for you
    d) Use a local branch and make a branch single payment - you would need your chip & pin card and your pin for this, otherwise it's not possible at all.

All services are free - just make sure the funds are/will be in your account before making payments, otherwise, you could get charges on the account. Also don't forget to put your roll number as the reference for any transfers into your HBOS account.

PS. I think for a small bit of misinformation, switching banks would be quite an extreme thing to do :p
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

If you have a current account, even without online banking, you should be able to set up a standing order for regular payments to your other account. Ask, next time you're at the branch.
