Ladies I need your help!

Options
So, I've just bought a slow cooker and it's sat there looking at me. I'm looking at it and thinking now what? I've been to the other threads about different recipes and it all seems confusing! You have to read each thread and the whole recipe, cooking times etc seem to be spread over many posts.

Go easy on me as I have lived off microwave meals for a long time and I just haven't the foggiest. Can someone recommend a really easy to cook first meal in the slow cooker, complete with recipes, cooking times, how much liquid to use, etc. I haven't got the ingredients yet as it all seems a minefield! I do have Bisto roast vegetable flavour granules in a jar, can I use that for the stock?

I plan on getting the rest of the stuff tomorrow LOL. It's bad enough I'm looking at this jar of gravy granules without going into a sweat. Thank you kindly. :o

What about bolognese sauce? You can use it with spaghetti, other pasta dishes, cottage pie, and over jacket potatoes.

I have used gravy granules as stock before. You just use a lot less that what it says on packet to make it thin.
  • How do you make bolognese sause? I am completely new to all this and have no idea.

    A chicken?

    It's a nice easy starter.

Take one fresh or defrosted chicken, give it a quick rinse and place in the slowcooker, chop an onion a stick of celery and a carrot and bung those in too. Add a glass of wine and a glass of water, herbs if you want. Turn onto high and leave for 4-6 hours.

I always put mine breast down for the first hour then turn. Doesn't matter if you use red or white wine - it's all a matter of taste....you can add garlic if you like or any other flavours but it's a really good starter dish to make you appreciate how nice and easy it is.

Ok this is the bolognase sauce recipe. It is much simpler that it looks.

Instead of simmering, transfer to the slow cooker and cook all day on low.
  • Thank you for coming to my rescue! I did see the stew thread and just needed a condensed version, hee hee.

I was going by this post, if I use bisto granules how much should I make up? How long to cook for?

As regards the chicken, I've read that some people say it smells funny and comes out slimey so I'm not confident about cooking that.
  • Can you use frozen mince meat or frozen veg in slow cooker?

Anyone know where I can get a replacement ceramic dish thingy for my slow cooker, mines got a huge crack in it and I've only used it a few times. Everyone in the house is pleading innocence though and not admitting to the crime. Any ideas at all, or do I need to buy a new one. It's a morphy richards one by the way.
