    Are you not charged for paying off your mortgage early on a fixed rate? I know I would be - maybe in your position (43k mortg), 1% or whatever it might be will not be too much to afford though.

    yes I would be charged 1% but what I am doing is building my overpayment fund to equal my mortage in year 4 and then they wont take any more payments in last year and on the end of term pay it off.
