Bio-D

Hi all, as what I'd like to think of a 'close to greenly ethical' consumer, I'm considering switching my washing up & laundry liquid from Ecover to Bio-D as Ecover has to be shipped from Belgium and Bio-D is from the UK (as far as I know). Does anyone out there use Bio-D? How is it?

Having just bought a big pack of Ecover washing liquid and dishwasher cleaners I can only compare the washing liquid to Bio-d from the site that I have looked at for Bio-d products. Unfortunatly although a family run company based in UK was twice the price of Ecover even with the discounts I got from the ecover distributor !!!!!
Am all for green and buying british but at same time do not like having to pay far greater prices for similar type of green washing liquid. Would have thought it would be cheaper given that it is made in UK as well ......
The debate continues .............:rolleyes:Saving the planet whilst saving pennies !!!!!!!0 -
Its sad that goods can be transported all that way yet still be much much cheaper. Then again I wouldn't volunteer for a pay cut to reduce the difference0

Home and Bargain today had stocks of "Biocare" washing up liquid for 29p - It does claim to be environmentally friendly, biogdegradable etc. etc. so I bought a bottle to compare the ingredients to my Ecover. Seems fine, so I'll head back tomorrow for a cupboard-full.
Made in Italy...if that matters0 -
I believe Bio D is made in the Hull area, I regularly use the washing up liquid and prefer it to ecover and it is cheaper!!
In fact i use the wash up liquid diluted with water as a shower gel, shampoo and soap as well, much better and cheaper than the expensive chemical alternatives.
I will try and find out price differences between washing powder, but i am sure bio D is cheaper than ecover, both in 1 & 5 litre sizesMy Shop Is Your Shop0 -
I can't find a local stockist for Bio D in Northern Ireland, anyone out there care to point me in the direction???
So far I'm happy with Ecover, I know it isn't the best choice because of the transport issues, but it's the only option available to me in Northern Ireland at the moment.0 -
There is more to it than just where the product is shipped from.
Ecover was owned by Philip-Sørensen and Group 4 Securitas, until Sørensen took over all the shares himself. He carried on as chairman of Group4 after this.
Group4 are a highly unethical company with many human rights violations, not the least of which are the 'Private Prisons' they run and the asylum detention centres.
Secondly Ecover make donations to cancer charities which perform animal testing. Claiming to be against animal testing, yet actively funding it.
Not very ethical really.
I've come to the conclusion that if you can buy an 'ethical' product in a supermarket then it's probably not as ethical as it looks. Better to support small independent stores and manufacturers that are making a real ethical difference.ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0 -

I use the Bio-D loo cleaner and fabric softener - i am very happy with them. I am also switching away from Ecover but am really into the Earth Friendly Products range - the washing-up liquid's smell divine (pear, grapefruit and almond are the ones I have tried) I don't think they are cheap but a little goes a very long way. https://www.greenbrands.co.uk[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

I use Bio D washing powder and washing up liquid and they both seem very good to me. OH likes the w'up liquid because it doesn't have a "weird smell". I was using the recommended amounts of powder, but, inspired by another thread I have halved the amount and still get clean clothes. If something is super-stained I use soap on it before washing, or use oxygen bleach.
Started using the loo cleaner last month - basically soap and vinegar I think, so remember to shake before use, but very effective.0 -
