I wanted one but I was told my garage wasn't wide enough (you needed space next to the garage door to fit the mechanism, I think?

    So yeah, careful :)

I wanted a 1/3 2/3 door so I can have a 'normal' entry into the garage (for my normal route to the house), but the builders have just realised the drive is in the way (rises upwards)! Any ideas, suggestions, solutions, any decent garage door suppliers that can be recommended?
    Thanks!

I had one fitted, that was 8' wide. The procedure was to dig a big deep hole and place a huge, solid wooden post either side (about 12" x4". That was to take the weight of the unit itself. 12-14' is probably very expensive as it's a huge span to support. Once in place, those uprights can't move at all, so they need to be done properly.

No idea how representative my price is compared to your area, but I paid £1000 in 2000 for a man to come and remove half the existing garage, dig the holes, supply/place the big wooden posts, create a framework of wood either side of that and fit upvc fascia boards either side of the door opening, then the firm to fit the door and connect it into an electrical socket that I'd already had made available for it.

I didn't shop for price at the time, I just used a local firm and asked them to do it.
  • You've probably already got sorted out now but just in case as it took ages for me to research see as follows http://www.rollergaragedoors.co.uk/roller-garage-doors/seceuroglide-compact/. We didn't have a lot of headroom on our garage so went for one of these. Been really happy with it so far.
