Marlin Financial Services.....

Hi people....not been here for a long time.

Now,I have been doing a bit of research on Marlin and I have a question for you all.

When companies such as Marlin 'take over' collections for others ,particularly banks, have they actually bought the debt from such as the banks ??
Does anyone have a specific answer for me here, please ?? All help much appreciated. :)

If you're being specific about Marlin/Phoenix, then they normally buy debts.

But as a general point it's often not obvious whether the agency writing to you now owns the debt or are just 'collecting on behalf of'

As a pointer, check if they refer to the original lender as 'our client' - if so, they haven't bought the debt.

Marlin usually buy debts that are either stat barred or totally unenforcable (no paperwork)
They were featured on an ITV1 programme last year & one of their phone threat monkeys had to leave the company afterwards due to the public hatred he generated! lol

Thanks for your replies so far. :)

The first line states: ''The above debt has been passed to us to recover and we need to speak with you to arrange a suitable repayment plan''. They also list the original reference number and their own reference number.

So,a bit non specific really. Needless to say, they won't be getting a penny until such time as I can establish whether they have actually bought the debt or not. I actually hope that they have, then I can have some fun with them ! :D

The amount 'owed' in stated on the letter, but nothing else....no 'notice of assignment'. And Yes,it is for who you said.
So what do you think....have they bought the debt ??

I get the feeling that they are acting as an agent at the moment;)
I'd send them the national debtline "Prove it" letter

and wait for them to write to you , do not talk to them on the phone if they call, or if you are tempted to call them

  • i have just been informed by J Sutcliffe (York Banks fake solicitors) that theyhave sold the debt to marlins, what are they like to deal with in setting up payment.

i arent contesting that i owe the money and are happy to pay it back, even within the original time frame of the loan agreement.

do they immediately go for a CCJ agaisnt you or will they try agree monthly payments
