I think if you are a sole trader there is no requirement to have a separate business account but it certainly makes it
easier to keep track of your business if you do keep things apart.

    Fraud !!!!

Where the hell did you come up with that gem???

As a fraud investigation manager I can tell you that having a private bank account for business purposes doesn't fit the definition of fraud. Incidently just to be pedantic there isn't an offence of fraud on the english statute books in any event!!!

Having said that i would suggest keeping a close tally on what you do with your personal account is a good idea. Remember the tax man cometh ( at some point)

I think the OP is self employed and that is not "having your own business" in any case.

There are some similarities between SE and Business Ownership but that doesn't mean that a self-employed person has his own business. By definition, self-employment means that you work for someone even if it's yourself, a business owner employs staff (as a rule). A lot of lorry drivers are owner-drivers which is to say that they own their own truck but they are usually employed full-time by a haulage company but have to look after all their own tax and expenses. The proprietor of the haulage company would be classed as a business owner.

BTW, I've never tried, but I don't think that Costco are that strict on enforcing their rules. I know a few people with Costco accounts and I don't think any would have got in if they were strict.

Going back to the original question, does anybody have advice on how to gain Costco membership - assuming we're not all firefighters or others of the specified professions?
