Starting a second job

Just wondering if someone could give me some advice.

For the past year I've been working in a bar, as employment in my actual profession dried up.

I've now managed to get another job in my actual profession starting on Monday.

I will be keeping the bar job, as a very infrequent part-time job (say 1 shift every 2 weeks) so that if this new job goes pear shape, I have a backup.

Obviously this will mean my new (second) job will be on a BR tax code. Is there a way I can swap my main job to the new one, thus changing my tax codes around?

Is it as simple as phoning HMRC?

Thanks in advance

    1) ......... yes, you can (sensibly) do that

    2) ......... is likely to be the best way to do it. Writing to them will put you in a several month backlog.
