Why do you need a mortgage if they are in effect giving you the house?0

Because my Nans house is only 1 bedroom which isn't big enough for us all to live in, and my Nan wants to move as she has issues with her neighbours and the noise, plus I think she doesn't want to be on her own anymore incase she gets ill, this is a way of us all being able to look after each other0
