ok, so yesterday i actually saw a hairdresser about my wedding hair for the first time. it was quite a dissapointing experience! I had in my mind that i would have a simple half up do with big bouncy curls ..... not going to happen! my hair is very fine, she said baby fine, and she said it will never hold a curl all day, and may not even last for more than a couple of hours, and as you have your hair done early i would be worried it wont even stay in for the ceremony.

i am going for a trial in two weeks, and she has been lovely as she said we could try using the smallest rollers to give it a tight curl which will then drop, but i think i will end up dissapointed because it will look horrible to begin with and probably only look how i wanted it for a very short period of time.

so, im thinking i should forget trying curls, and should go for something else. But am fussy, i hate how i look with my hair tied up fully, so thats a no, and yesterday the lady cut me in a fringe as she said it would help the rest of my hair look thicker - which it does, but now i dont really likeit half up and straight! What i am thinking is it will look nice on the side, and am thinking french plait from each side meeting round on one side, then clipping someway so that the remainder is all together, a bit like this:

but a tighter neater plait, and then hopefully adding some wave in the bottom bit, but this is the closest pic ive found and i was wandering if anyone had any similar pics or other ideas for a side do that will work with my horrible fine hair. i feel really depressed about the whole thing:(

    Hey hun

I've reposted your link cos you had 2 'http's' and it didn't work - you forgot to delete the one in the link box! ; )

    linky

I think that hairstyle looks lovely, what are you wearing in your hair - are you having a veil?

My daughter has the same problem but for the opposite reason, she has really thick heavy hair and she's having a real 'mare finding a style suitable for the day that she likes. On top of which she's getting married abroad so can't have her hairdresser 'practise'!

why not just wear a hair band/tiara and keep it down, it will be away off your face to show earrings, and not up how you don't like it

hello all, thanx for your replies sal-ad daze, thanks for reposting the link. I am wearing a tiara, its a dainty one which was lucky as they said even with backcombing they would struggle to get height in my hair! i have a veil that a friend has leant me, and i would love to wear it, but am now thinking i probably wont if i have something on the side.

blackpool_saver, i wear my hair down all the time, so just wanted different really, but i had thought about it, the thing is with fine hair its really fly away, and flat, and on a general day it looks a mess within a couple of hours because it gets knotty, so think i need at least some of it fastened in someway if you get what i mean.

pickle pick, thank you, thank you, thank you! that first pick is almost exactly what i was looking for as its sleeker than the one i found. Im not sure if my hair will hold even that much curl, but am thinking that it will look lovely like that even if its straight, and am thinking i could probably get clip in extension to add on to that bit and give it more volume. they said i wouldnt be able to use clip in extensions if i was having it half up as nothing for clips to grip onto, but im pretty sure that pulled to the side like that i can get the individual clip in bits

thanks, i have emailed her for some advice as i think the problem is with fine hair you may see the clips, but for a side ponytail it may be a bit easier.

    Just a few suggestions:

http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=21094 - from another forum but for fine wedding hair. If you scroll down the posts there are a lot of photos.

May also be worth asking another hairdresser for suggestions as it may be that someone else has experience in doing curls in flyaway hair.

I agree with the extension idea - my friend did that, she had a short bob and wanted curls, so she got them put in; clip sort and had it all tied back with lots of curls. Am sure lots of hair dressers wouild suggest that for wedding hair; even if its to give some more volume and har to work with to get your desired style. I really like the first picture with the french plait down the side, really pretty.

Hope you can get what you want - maybe you should as around at different hair dressers?

thank you both, the thing is ive had so far two hairdressers that have let me down, two that have been busy and three that i contacted that were out of my price range, so it has been a nightmare just trying to find someone. and i really wanted someone who could come to my home, but have pretty much exhausted that option so this salon is literally a five minuite walk from my house and they only want £15 for a trial, so im thinking £15 is worth having a go with them. I just want to make the most of that one trial, and am thinking that it would be better to try something that is better suited to my hair and then if i dont like it i will go elsewhere. am going to get friends to have a go at really smothering my hair in products and curling it and see how long it lasts then i can go in to the salon and tell them what i found.

But either way now im actually starting to really like the french plait and to the side look, i had ago at it a minute ago (it was very messy cos i cant do plaits on my own hair!) but it definately suited my face, and looked pretty.

thanks so much for all your help, am really greatful, i did google search first and struggled to find what i was looking for, so really happy that youve all found different ones to what i saw. if you spot anymore - especially with plaits then please let me know!
