Hi
Can anyone tell us how to clear our home address as we have been told by the bank that the reason we can't get a loan is due to our address - we bought the house 3 years ago and know that the previous owners ran up debts which were not paid - Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is no such thing as a blacklisted address these days, credit scoring is done on an individual not an address.0

I suggest you read the stuff on MSE about improving your own credit score. Also make sure you have removed the previous owners of the address off the electoral roll, and that you have checked your credit files at all the agencies including the hidden one to ensure you are not linked to them.
Unfortunately some people are fraudsters and will use old addresses and link themselves to people at those address to get out credit.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
Hi, We went through all the Credit companies and they could not understand why we were getting refused - Credit rating for both of us was excellent, someone at the bank enquired why we kept getting knocked back and the reply was the address0

are you on the electroll0

Rather than it being your house that's blacklisted with the credit ref agencies (which doesn't exist anymore) could it be that the bank have an internal record of addresses where there's been bad debt with that particular company and are less likely to lend to those addresses? It's not something I've heard of but you never know with some banks. That or they could just be using it as an excuse?Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Or the bank staff does not know what is he/her talking about. My friend's boyfriend works in the bank, I adviced her to check her credit file, he told her it will effect her rating if she does, she believe him of course!0 -
I bet it's just an excuse isn't it; I'm sorry, but I suspect it's easier for the bank staff to say "It's not you, it's your address" and move the problem on to someone / something else rather than saying "Sorry sir / madam, YOU are not scoring enough for our systems".
I can see why people would do it, but doesn't help the OP much does it?0 -
OP, go back to the bank and tell them that the address should not be an issue as credit scores are completed against individuals, not addresses.
If they stand by their original response, ask to speak to a supervisor, then a manager and so on, until you get to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about.February wins: Theatre tickets0
