FIRST DIRECT interest rate miscalculations

First Direct have just contacted me to say that since June 2009, when my fixed rate deal ended and I went on to 1% over the base rate, that they've only charged me and countless other people .5% and they want the difference back. I have made a formal complaint and asked them to waive the difference as they accept responsibility for the error that they say was due to a manual input error, whatever that is. Has this happened to others recently? Does anyone know if I have a leg to stand on if I refuse to pay?

many thanks
lanaby

Everybody makes mistakes , I'm sure you have. Would you be happy if your pay was docked if you made an error at work?

Your could reasonably request that the shortfall is repaid over an extended period rather than a lump sum.
