Hi, I needed advice on a debt collection letter I got from Additions Direct. I shopped with them in December 2009. I recieved a letter from them last week which was a debt collection and it was frightening as the total on letter was £100, It was really shocking because my shopping was a total of £22.50. They have been adding admin fees. I have not recieved any statements from them and today in the post I have received all the back dated statements . I also filled an online complaint form on their site last week. But they have not replied. So I contacted FOS, who said to me I had to wait 8 wks until they can deal with it. What I am worried about is the most they'll keep adding up interest and admin charges and I am unemployed:mad:. FOS has adviced me write a letter and send it to them. I really need help.
Thanks
Thanks

Ok you're not in a total mess Hon, it's one £100 debt collectors letter. We've got members with £100k of debt and no assets or job. This is a teeny weeny problem in the grand scale of things and it's important not to let it turn into something it isn't for your own sake. Take a few big deep breaths and have a think about what you can afford to pay off. How about a fiver a week? if not pick another number. Did you make an offer in your compaint letter or ask themto do anything?
IF you did make an offer then you need to stick to it. Otherwise I would be making token payments to them whilst the complaint gets looked at. As you are on benefits it would only probably be a minimum amount - if 1 pound per month is all you can afford then so be it.
If you need any help then you can always contact CCCS or your local CAB to chat things through but in the end it boils down to the old saying - they can't have what you haven't got.
Also - the debt collectors may threaten this that and the other but 1) you aren't going to go to prison 2) they aren't realistically going to make you bankrtupt for 22.50 (or whatever it was) and 3) they can't just come and tkae your things or make you sell your house or any of the other rubish they can sometimes come up with.
IF they do send any letters just post on here and people will tell you whether they are serious or just idle threats.
Oh and they really aren't going to come around to your house for 22.50 (or whatever) but IF they really did have nothing better to do - just tell them to go away or you'll call the police.
