Solar panels on rented property

I live in Camden in a 2nd story rented property, there's another property above us.
I can get a maximum of a £3000 grant towards buying and installing solar panels (photovoltaic and solar water heating) on the roof.
The questions are:
How likely is it that my LL will allow me to do this?
How much will the total cost be?
Am I allowed to do this if it will essentially be going on someone else's roof?
I'm on good terms with the LL and other residents and they're all very reasonable, i'm just wondering about legal stipples and cost.

Simple question for you:
Are you staying there for the next 25 years?
If answer is no, then forget it. Immediately. End of.
If answer is yes, then very complicated, but possibly. But why would you rent the same place for the next 25 years? Highly unlikely you would get the grant for a rental property, but I think the answer to the first question is the most critical.0 -
i dont see how you can get a grant if the property isnt yours in the first place .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

In confirmation of post#2, Solar PV is very expensive to install in the range of £10,000 to £20,000 and by any measure it is a long term 'investment' with payback times in the order of 12 to 20 years.
Solar thermal will never pay back the investment - £thousands to install and saving of £tens a year.0 -
Sweet, idea abandoned
