Quick Question: Halifax Valuation?

Does anyone on here know whether Halifax will take the payment for mortgage valuation from your bank before underwriting, or will they wait until after that before instructing (and then taking payment)?

They take it straight away, but if there is a problem or they want to investigate your application further they will put a hold on the survey until they are happy. At least that is what happened with me anyway...

    Thanks, very useful.

The only reason I'm asking is: If the mortgage is declined after underwriting (very pessimistic I know but that's my nature) and the valuation hasn't taken place, with the valuation fee taken, will Halifax refund the cost of that to you?

    Anybody know from experience?

If the valuation doesn't take place, you get your money back.

If it takes place and they subsequently decline the mortgage, then you don't get your money back.

    Thanks. Much appreciated.

I'm at underwriting stage currently and, as yet, no fee has been taken from the bank. Been told to expect the valuation sometime mid-next week.

    Fingers crossed...
