Its called 'peristalsis'. The rhythmic contraction of the muscles in your throat and esophagus move the bolus (while its being swallowed that mouthful of food is called a 'bolus') down to your stomach. Then after leaving the stomach, peristalsis moves the partly digested food through the rest of your small intestine and down through your large intestine.
