swapping jobs but what do i do with my tax code??

hi im moving from a £36000 gross for 2009 to 2010 tax year job , and from next week ill be starting a new job that earns £23000 gross for the year , do i need to change anything or does my employer do all the tax things for my , there both food factorys where im coming from and going to , and ive left my 36k job for a better home life i was littarally living at work , its time to chill and spend time with the kids

    Your tax code won't change, so your employer will operate PAYE when you give them your P45.

    However, if you have also given up perks which were taxable, then you will need to tell HMRC so that your tax code can be adjusted.

    Perks are extras such as company cars, private medical insurance, gym membership, etc which are not taxed at source, but which are included in your code numner.

    Yes. You may end up on Week 1 or BR tax code until they receive your tax code from the tax office but you'd be refunded as soon as it was.

    Why expect Week 1/BR to wait for tax code from tax office? It will be on the P45 from current employer and therefore should be used by the new employer straight away.
