Should I Do A Degree?

Simple questions really, i've been pondering weather while times on my side, (just turned 21 last week), i should do more qualifications like a degree or something, i have 2 BTEC Diploma's and im studying for my Microsoft Professional Qual's at the moment.

Im an ICT Technician at a School, term time at the moment but promotional prospects to full full time are looking good for next year possibly this year, im on 13k, tbh i think is bad for what i do but hey ho if i go full time that goes up, im just thinking if i quit work to do a degree or something i may not get another good job like i have now and would be stuck with possible student debt (unlikely) and maybe doing another couse.

Can anyone help me with my conumdrum!?. :rotfl::rotfl:

Why dont you stay in your current job and look for a degree part-time either evening or weekend. I don't know very much about computing so I cant advise there. It be easy to top up on your existing qualifications. You will get paid, you have time to study as your hours fit into school and you will be able to gain valuable work experience. Your salary is not terrible and is OK for you age. Avoid at all cost taking on debt as it drags many people down rather than up. Your last line shows all the disadvantages.

I Did think about that, i may well have to go that way, but i think ill have to fund the whole thing myself, dont think my job would help me, if they did i doubt it'd be much.
With regards to my salary, im basing it on what i do at work paired with my age ect, i know that penalises me but i do a lot more than the average Technician. :).
Does anyone know if you can do a degree (part time) at college or does it have to be a uni?.

Thanks for the help so far.

Why don't you explore the possibility of doing an Open University degree? I did one and while it is tiring at times it is very rewarding and the qualificaton is recognised everywhere, unlike other distance learning courses. You could then carry on working

Can you explain the difference between the two?. :)

Most educational establishments insist their employees do 30 hours of CPD (Continuous professional Development) and so they would probably give you time off work to attend a local College which has links to a University (as most do now).

Go and see the IT and Computing dept at your local College and see what they offer. Do it now though before the new term/enrolment begins in Sept. Then approach your line manager and ask if it could be considered as CPD.
