Agency Callously Dragging Out My Credit Check!

What the hell is wrong with these employment agencies???
As I write this, I am feeling very angry and upset over an employment agency who are dragging their feet too much in regard to a credit check they have had to do for the banking job I have applied for (Customer Service/Admin role). Nearly three weeks ago, I met the consultant to fill in the forms for the post, and she told me that a credit check would be necessary before they could submit me for interview to the financial employer concerned. She assured me that the check would take up to two days, and that she would then contact me to let me know the outcome. Well, I waited . . . and waited . . , and waited. But no such reply came.
Angry at being left in the dark like this, I then contacted the agency and was told that the credit check had come back, but that I had to clarify one "adverse" reference on the file (e.g. a late payment to one of my creditors). This I did, and she resubmitted it again. Well, I waited . . . and waited . . . and waited. But, needless to say, she never got back in touch.
This week - yet again - I have had to contact the agency. This time, I was told that the check "hadn't come back yet," but that once it did, she would get back to me. It is now Thursday, and yet again I have had to ring her office up. This time, I was told she was "on her lunch," and that she would "ring me back." Well, I am sitting here waiting . . . and waiting . . . and waiting . . .
Has this sort of credit check procrastination happened to any other jobseekers here? How long does it take to do a credit check anyway? And why aren't agencies straight and honest with you if they don't think you have passed the check (which I should have done as I have never had any court judgements etc.).
If they STILL dilly-dally about this credit check, can I complain to The Manager of the agency concerned? Whether that would do any good though is another matter!

You can complain to whoever you want about whatever you want. Whether or not it will do you any good is another question.
The problem is, right now you need them more than they need you, and your application is way more important to you than it is to them. Annoying them in someway is likely to just make them drag their feet harder, or simply bin you off completely.
There's not a person in the world who doesn't make a better friend than enemy, and that includes employment agencies.
Rather than getting stroppy, either be patient and let their cogs grind as slowly as they choose, or try to charm them into prioritising your application. Be their best friend, become popular, plead to their better natures, send them doughnuts if you like - and possibly, just possibly, they'll pull out some stops for you.0 -
They dont need to deal with you if they dont want too.
Accept they don't and move on.0 -
If they thought they could get you in a post then they would be in contact.
That's what agencies do.0 -
Surprised they asked you to go for one before the role? Normally the role is gained first and offered on the basis of a security and credit check0
