Do you have to pay travel costs to get to the job?

I was offered bar work at events whilst on JSA but as it could be 4 hrs 1 wk, 0 hrs nxt wk & I'd have to pay out travel costs, I told JC I couldn't afford to take it, which they accepted. If it had been a set amount of hrs each wk I might have taken it.

Not everyone on JSA is a scrounger, but it's unreasonable to expect people to go out to work to be worse off.

If you get £64 JSA then £5 is nearly an extra 10%. When you're really short of money, an extra £5 can be really useful and what else are you doing with your time?

It's £5 ON TOP of your benefits, plus some experience in a real job, which can be priceless if it leads to more work.

Like someone else said if you work they minus £5 from your pay then knock the rest off your benefit and they won't take it until you have been paid- when you take your payslip in they will adjust the next JSA payment accordingly.

Bang on. it could lead to something and even if it doesn't its something positive to put on a CV.

You don't need the Jobcentre, this could be your chance to prove it

    Good point!

OP - given your, obviously negative, sentiments towards the Job Centre, why would you be in any way keen to prolong the relationship?
