Clubcard Extra Points, then return item?

Hi, sorry if this has been posted before but I've done a search and can't find anything.

I got through my Tesco clubcard statement today with coupon's for additional points when you buy, for eg. "Me and Orson Welles" on DVD. I was wondering if you could buy the DVD, claim the 150 extra points, and then return the DVD later and keep the points? I'm guessing no, but figure it's worth asking about.

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Not in portsmouth, the biddys have often removed the points from my clubcard before they have implemented the refund.

You could always buy the items and sell them on ebay, etc as "brand new - sealed items".
I would imagine you would make your money back - especially with the points being worth 4x in deals - even make a small profit?!
  • Cheers to both those replies, shame it doesn't work outright, but I'll see how much they go for on ebay and maybe try it that way!

not only would they remove the points, don't they have a rule about not refunding DVD/CD/computer games?

Only when they have been unsealed from the plastic wrapper.

    1. You must also spend at least £1 in a single transaction for the transaction to qualify for points. Then one point will be awarded for every £1 that is spent. This can be altered at the discretion of Tesco. Tesco shall be entitled to set a limit on the number of points which may be awarded to each Clubcard account in respect of special promotional items on which additional points are awarded. Tesco shall be entitled at any time to cancel points awarded if the relevant products to which such award relates are returned or cancelled for any reason and a refund of the purchase price is given or if the relevant products are exchanged for other products, unless such exchange is for products with an equivalent points value. Where the relevant products are exchanged for products of a lower points value Tesco shall be entitled to cancel the balance of points between those originally collected and those collected in respect of the replacement products.

    (CDS/DVDS)

They don't even start out in a plastic wrapper a lot of the time, they are in a perspex box which the cashier opens! So you can never get a refund on them unless faulty.

Well then I guess that unless you can prove that you can't have ripped the CD to a computer, Tesco would be under their rights to not refund then.
