Bank of Scotland

Bank of Scotland are definitely the nastiest of the many banks I deal with. It was actually their nastiness that made me make the decision to go bankrupt in the first place. Which shows that their policy is rather self-defeating.
They were the ones who -- after me missing *one* payment -- said they were sending someone round. Now -- after missing two payments -- they've already referred me to a debt collection agency who have just written me an aggressive and ridiculous letter demanding repayment of my loan in full. As if I could.
By contrast, other banks have been quite nice. I've been surprised by Egg's approach. Barclaycard are incredibly persistent, but they're not mean.
So, Bank of Scotland, if you're out there: I might have struggled through more payments if you hadn't pushed me over the edge. Now you'll get nothing. Maybe next time you'll try being more human to people in difficulty.

Crazy eh!
I found Egg quite helpful - but I know others haven't? I don't have anything with BOS but do with Halifax (aren't they the same group now I get confused) and after some initial problems they accepted my reduced payments. The bain of my life at the moment is Alliance and Leicester - am going through a complaint about themThe worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw

i was quite shocked at how quickly some of the banks come down heavily. after i missed one payment i was getting constant phone calls. for myself it was virgin who pushed me over the edge. firstly by increasing the APR on my credit card to a ridiculous rate, then when i asked for help they said there was nothing they could do, they wouldn't reduce the rate or the payment even on a short term basis.
i do know it was down to me going br, but virgin certainly made me take the decision rather quickly
a lot of companies don't seem interested in helping people who are struggling, 2 missed payments and they'll ship you off to a DCA, end of story
ah well, you live and learn eh?

What I don't understand.. Surely it would be in the creditors interest to at least accept something rather than nothing?
it was so easy to fall in to the trap of easy credit and something I know I am not proud of being like this, but if you look around this board you will see at some point in time everyone has tried to come to some sort of agreeent and it seems in most cases they are turned down. I just think the time and money wasted on phone calls and letters and DCA's, and court orders... if they had accepted some money they would at least be some way in to recouping their money, but no they keep on this relentless bullying until it seems that the only option left for many people is BR.... Such a shame.
Well my next lot of fun will start if the divorce goes through ok and we sell the house F&F offers to my creditors....The worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw

What I find interesting is that we all seem to have different banks as our nemesis, Egg were fine, they were a bit pushy but got the message really quickly.
B of Scotland, I had an account and card with them, and they were very very nasty, my youngest son was in hospital, had been for a bit, I was at my wits end, and they kept calling, sometimes 10 times in one day, from 8am to 8pm, this was why hubbies Uncle became a creditor of ours as he lent us the money to get them off my back.
All other creditors have been fine, amazingly so in fact.
Black Horse, who were the ones that tipped me over the edge due to the fact they just would not help us, did not chase at all after I phoned them and told them about the BR. Although if they had checked their records they would have seen that I tried to sort it and they wouldn't let me!
Our problem is Barclays Partner Finance, they are truly nasty, and dh has now raised complaints with the Finance and Leasing Association, and the FSO, as the complaint made to them directly did nothing at all.0 -
It was First Plus who tipped me over the Edge
Turned out a payment holiday because it hadn't been paid back cost me £8K in 4 years in interest! Or so they said!
Good luck with everything banks dont deserve to loose money and I feel guilty to all my creditors however sometimes if they treated us fairly when we were struggling then they would have got a lot more of there monies backTotal Weight Loss - 28lb and countingAD 17/11/20100 -
I totally agree, it seems that everyone at some point realises they are in a pickle and try and get it sorted and make some offer.... I gobsmacks me that they would rather use bullying tactics which acutally result to more and more people turning to BR, some of who have been on DMP etc......
Do you also think it has something to do with about who you speak with as well? As I said (so far) Egg have been really good, Halifax (OK not frozen interest but cut it and agreed to short term agreement), Mint (ok agreed short term agreement but put my account in default), Co-op need to have an update every 6 months. A & L - WORK FOR THE DEVIL! in my eyes.
I don't know whether they will let me carry on with the short term agreements, but we'll have to cross that bridge.......

Have to say I completely agree with Bank of Scotland/Halifax being the nastiest out there - they too were the ones who pushed me over the edge into BR by their constant calls all day every day despite being asked to remove the number - they even were harassing my sister on her phone number despite being told that it was no longer my number and had not been my phone number for over three years - so add dumb to the malicious nasty list as well. They also did a right of set off and took money from my son's savings account towards my personal debts - I got it back after a fight but they are the scum of the earth IMO and I wish they had been completely liquidated and allowed to crash and burn when the banking crisis all came to a head.
BTW this would have meant I would have also been unemployed given I work under the umbrella now of the LLoyds Banking Group but I would have viewed it with distinct pleasure that the bank which gave me such a hard time over debts were themselves in debt far more upto their eyeballs than I ever was & the plug had been pulled.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0
