Flour - Morrisons Strong White, 48p for 1.5kg
Additional - Wessex Mill's Cobber (mail order) - had it in the cupboard for a few years, bought when I had a bit more money, but I only add 100g to 500g white flour
Yeast - Hovis (Fast Action or whatever it's called) 60p for 42g - also from Mr M.

Hi there  We have an older thread on whether to buy a BM, with loads of costings. I'll add this thread to keep ideas together.

For those new people reading the whole thread and looking at the costs link near the start, I think his maths are flawed. He's equating the bought loaf to a 500g home made loaf but hasn't taken into account the weight of the water in it..? So the economics are better than he says"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0

I think it depends on your family requirements and your own inclinations. If you cannot be a*sed to make bread by mixing, rising, baking then a breadmaker is for you. You only need to put the ingredients in the BM and switch it on. Later, a loaf comes out.
I make my bread without one, but from time to time we run out and buy a shop loaf for the horrifying sum they charge. I am thinking of a breadmaker to fill those gaps. It will take longer to pay for itself than if I made bread all the time in it, but I might do that to start with until it has.0 -
If you use silicon tins do they really not stick?0

Great to hear there are other Panasonic users on here. Could I ask what brands of flour and yeast you are using and where you buy them?
tesco own brand flour for white bread and dove organic for brown (it's the cheapest one our local supermarkets stock). And hovis yeast in the little packets - sainsburys and tesco stock this.0 -
yes it is worth it.i have the pannysd253 and have used it on and off since i bought it.at the moment more as to the price of supermarket bread is a joke and goes mouldy very quickly.had a few hit and miss loafs but learnt a lot of it was the yeast so not a problem now. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

Southern Softie,
Good luck, I hope you bag it! You WILL come back and tell us how you're getting on, won't you?0 -
