Win not quite as described...

Hi all,

I was lucky enough to win with Morrisons recently, and got delivery of the parcel yesterday. The OP states that the prize is:

A holiday pack containing the following:
(i) An iPod Nano (8GB)
(ii) Sony 7" portable DVD player Received Hyundai DVD player (portable)
(iii) Sony Cyber Shot S930 digital camera Received Samsung ES15 camera
(iv) Nivea suncream Factor 50 Waterproof for kids(v) Nivea suncream Factor 30 and Factor 15 Not received (Only 2 bottles factor 20)
(vi) Nivea hand cream and Nivew Facial Cleensing Wipes Not received
(vii) Jungle Formula insect bite cream and insect repellent spray Only spray received
(viii) Travel sickness armband

but this isn't quite what I received. (differences noted above)

I know it's really ungrateful, but should I contact the PR company to mention this? What would be the best way to word an email about it?

All help gratefully received (Thanks, once again, to the OPs who posted the comp!)

Sorry to hear that hun, it's not ungrateful to be a little confused about the prize you received, after all its not the prizes stated.

I would recommend calling them, I have the number froma PR company I spoke to last week which was from a recent morrisons comp if you want the number? I would call to clarify, they may have changed the prizes due to stock availability but I would have thought you should still receive items like for like.

Also remember they may be sending prizes out seperately due to availibility. Really the best thing you can do is just ask for your own peace of mind, they wont think you are ungrateful at all. I really hope you get it sorted and congratulations on such a brilliant win!

Quite a lot of competitions state that they are able to substitute the prize in part or in full for something of similar value so this might be why. The parts that you haven't received might be being sent out by a different PR company or directly from Nivea so might be worth finding out if this is the case and if not when could you expect to receive them

I would contact them, probably say what I had turn up and say I am checking if this is correct as it is not what it said from the competition. - I would look at the camera / DVD reviews (are they of similar quality) if not lay it on thick that I was really looking foward to getting the Sony cyber shot.

I havent done this but others probably have better advice.

Congratulations on the win and well done for for spotting the changed and missing items. I too would mention it (politely) to the promotors and see what their response is. It's long been a bone of contention with me that the companies running these promotions appear not to be monitored by any official body to check that the prizes they offer are ever actually awarded.

I remember a few years ago my local paper ran a competition to name a new housing estate and as I was passing their office in town I popped in to discover who had won the prize of £100 in M&S vouchers. Well they didn't know and advised me to phone the sponsors (the property developers) who said the prize hadn't been awarded because they didn't think any of the entries were of a suitable standard. They became quite abusive after I told them they had an obligation under the law to award the prize and accused me of 'sour grapes' and in the end said they would donate the prize to charity. Whether this ever happened I can't say.

There are a lot of responsible companies out there running promotions of various sorts but equally I'm sure there are some less responsible ones that gain loads of free publicity from running competitions and offering prizes which maybe are never awarded.

My ex-boss used to work for a large confectionary/fizzy drinks company - she said quite often they had "made up" prizes. This board proves the majority are genuine but its so bad when they're not!
