Night and day cream, is it a con?

Hi, do you use a seperate cream at night on your face? I use an SPF moisturiser in the day which I don't need at night but I am loathed to spend money on a seperate cream just for the night time.

I think night creams tend to be denser and not as easy to wear in the day- its sort of like a mini facial and you wake up with v.soft skin.
SPF I wouldn't like to apply on my skin before I sleep as I never feel it properly sinks in, I also don't like too many additives on my skin.
Try it, if it works for you stick with it but personally I apply a general non SPF cream day and night, then use a separate SPF cream either below the moisturiser or by itself. I do think there is a difference in day and night creams (one is milder then the other) but thats just my experience- if it works with you theres no need to change.0 -
yes they differ and yes they are worth investing in!!
however you do not need to buy the most expensive brands.:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
I read once by Eva Fraser the facial exercise guru that she never wears face cream at night as she believes its too heavy and encourages the face to sag....put me off a bit but i have used night creams and seen no difference whatsoever in my skin condition than if i wear a day cream at night.
But found them a bit thick so now just use shea butter which is a lot lighter at night and very moisturising which i need. But in the day recently i've been using Jergens body moisturiser on my face as i ran out of so called day cream and its been fine....think sometimes its marketing as well. Plus your skin type plays a part too.
But hey i'm no expert0 -
You wont be spending more, will you? If you're using cream day and night, it's the same amount you use, so the same amount you spend (unless you splash out on some v. expensive night cream.). I use some very thick stuff at night (m-activ), and my skin looks far, far better in the morning when I do.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

That's exactly what I was thinking! If you are only using your day cream once a day it will last twice as long! My night and day cream cost the same so I don't think I am spending any more money.
I use a night cream because my skin is dry and I use a richer cream at night and I want to give my skin a break from my SPF-containing day cream.0 -
Hi, thanks for your replies. I do have E45 cream which I was thinking of using as a night cream but that might be too rich for my face?
Do you think by the way that its important to use an SPF in the daytime? I never used to think about it before but now its marketed all the time its hard to ignore it.0 -

Try it and see.
I know for me it would cause me spots just because it is too rich- E45 is fin for my skin which can tollerate alot of what I throw at it but my facial skin (and everybody elses facial skin) is thinner on your face and needs more protection and a finer/thinner formula. I find that if stuff is too dense within a week I get horrible painful big whitehead spots which are too painful to even pick at! (not that I'm advising picking anything...) Maybe try it for a week, see if your skin is OK with it, I don't think everyone has skin which is as fickle as mine!0 -
Try something from Superdrug's Vitamin E range. The nightcream isn't too heavy and I'll often use it as a day moisturiser as well under my Olay touch of foundation moisturiser. I also love the Vit E illuminating moisturiser. Prices start around £2.50 but are often on half price.Freebies Received: Supersavvyme bag, Olay moisturiser, Barbara Daly/Tesco Mascara, Seeds of Change Choccie, Yorkshire Tea Kenyan teabags, Tesco mobile sim cards x 2.

Ok, skin advice from a bloke might not be the best but I'll stick my oar in anyway
I can't see the point of a separate night and day cream; my cynical side sees it as the latest con for us to part with our money (yes, there several male day and night creams now on the market).
I used to have very dry and sometimes blochy red skin, tried many of the branded expensive moisturisers but they were too "chemically" for my sensative skin and I felt like I had been slapped round the face with all the tingling. I then switched to E45 which had good results, but I found myself having to reapply it every few hours.
What finally worked for me was cold pressed hemp seed oil, the stuff you can buy in a supermarket so it is not illegal (yes, the same used for cooking). I had read on a few forums that it would work wonders and thought "yeah, yeah", but figured I'd try.
I have a couple of table spoons a day just eating it, for the nutritional benefits (it just tastes nutty, it is not like trying to force down castor oil), and for morning and night routine I would massage a few drops into my face, which is absorbed quite quickly.
I noticed benefits within the first few days (actually, within 24 hours), and now a month later I have never had better skin in my whole life. It's really soft, not dry at all, and the redness is minimal and I have no reaction against it because it is a natural product.
Google some results for "hemp seed oil skin" for more information.0
