Was wondering..when it comes to washing the dye off, does the water ever run clear or can I expect the water to stay tinted even after a few washes?
Used the rose red dye and when it came to washing it off, I noticed the water never ran clear, even after I conditioned my hair, the water was still quite heavily tinted.

my hair is purple atm, and have been red in the past, and my water never runs clear.
the colour fades over about 3 weeks and needs re-doing as it's washed out, even though it's permenant colour.0 -
watch your pillows as well if they are light coloured - I have ruined loads with dark hair dye!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

Takes a while but it will eventually. I usually use Plum which lasts about 8 weeks before it needs redoing, and it's currently plum with rose red. Its semi-permenant so you'll always lose a bit of colour though i find using colour friendly shampoo helps make it last longer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Oh dear, I'm wondering whether the result is gonna be worth it. Just have to hope I don't get caught in the rain _pale_ anytime soon.0

I think different products run different shades of clear (iyskim!) I find the '10' stuff runs clear, but the Live XXL, Feria and basicly the rest of L'Oreal never run clear- I rinse to get them as clear as I can, seems to take ages but the pillow incidents are annoying, it does rinse out but its a hassel it being there when I wake up.
I find that some can also still leak colour when being washed up to 2 weeks after its been applied (and I wash my hair daily!! and leave in for 24-48 hours after the initial application to help it 'set') I never have issues with the rain and colour leakage then, I do get the water pretty clear- looks clean when falling from my hair but looks coloured when water collects onto the bath surface.
I think its the heat that helps to remove the colour which is maybe why cold rain never gives me any issues.0 -
I use black and the water never runs clear although i do dye it every 4 to 6 weeks.0

Yes, I agree with the others, I used to frequently dye my hair red and there was always a hint of colour when rinsing. I remember the first time I dyed, the instructions said to rinse until water runs clear, I was there for ages and ages....0

This is a semi permanent vegan hair colour. I've washed it for the first time today after dying it & my hands ended up being a shade of rose red. The water was still very pinky red in colour & as well as dying my hands, my bath & tile grouting look at bit pinky now too (especially the grouting).
Hmm not sure it's worth the hassle of having dye everywhere.0 -
DD uses pink crazy colour and that gets everywhere comes off quite easily with a bit of bleach but the grouting is murder to clean. i'm scubing with a toothbrush for hours.0

The colour also rubs on to your towels for the first couple of washes after colouring. The towels never comes properly clean either. I have learnt this to my cost and now keep a towel specifically to use for subsequent washes after colouring.
I am not talking about the towel I use whilst actually doing the colouring. That looks disgusting and is kept solely for that job!0
