Parents splitting up, can I take over the mortgage?

I would really appreciate any help and advice that anyone maybe able to offer me.

I currently live at home with my parents who have decided to split up and go their seperate ways. I'm not too sure of all the details but think that the house is fully mortgaged, this was done so that 2 buy to let flats could be bought, they are now owned under my dads company of which I am a director.

I am thinking about taking on the mortgage of the house that we live in and have my mum stay with me as she can't afford to do this herself, with my dad living elsewhere. I want to know if I can do this and where it will leave all three of us. I guess the 2 flats will need to be sold but does my mum have any right to these as she isn't on the mortgage for them?

I'm concerned that my mum will be left with nothing and that is why I want to take over the mortgage and have her stay with me. Is what I'm purposing the right thing to do or is there a better way to go about sorting this out?

Your mother will be entitled to a share of your Fathers business (of which you are a Director). So its highly possible that part of the BTL empire will need to be sold in order for financial settlement to be made. The mortgage(s) will also have to be settled in order to achieve this.

Help your mother find a good non-confrontational solicitor to guide her through stressful times.
