How much does your wife earn? Do you have children?Gone ... or have I?0

Contributions-based JSA will stop but you can still apply for income-based JSA and other means-tested benefits.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Hiya,
That's a question that prompts alot more questions! How many hours does your wife work? You got kids?
Really, a quick look at www.entitledto.co.uk might be in order for you!
Have you tried asking the job centre what your options are? (They can't penalise you in any way for simply asking questions!).
Contribution based JSA stops after 6 months because the government decided that's how long it lasts. Yes, it's arbitrary, and some people say that it sucks if you've been employed for, say, 20 years, but that's the reality in the UK! Not always the gravy train some make it out to be.
Good luck

Have you looked to see if you might be eligible for tax credits?0 -

+1 for Working Tax Credits. You won't get income based JSA because your wife will earn too much for 34hrs even on National Minimum Wage0 -

Because your partner works full time you won't qualify for anything, good eh! I'm in the same situation, can't get anything at all and we have an 18 month old child and another on the way - you definitely are better off NOT working as it seems.
We can't live off just my partners wage and when she goes onto SMP then I don't know how we'll all live to be honest, but it's nice to know those that don't work will get looked after - bitter? Just a little.0 -
She must be earning quite a lot if you are not eligeable for at least one working tax or child tax credit though?sickofusernames wrote: »Because your partner works full time you won't qualify for anything, good eh! I was in the same position as you. Once contribution based JSA stopped I couldn't get anything else as my husband was earning.
He is a on good salary but our mortgage was based on both of us earning a decent amount and we had to borrow money to pay the mortgage.
I'm working now but for six months we had a terrible struggle. It took me a year to find a job as the industry I have always been in was hit very hard during the recession.
After 25 years of working and paying taxes I really felt that you don't get any help when you need it.0 -

Whilst I'm not going to deny that the system does appear to be 'unfair' sometimes, the fact of the matter is that people shouldn't expect it to be anything other than the bare minimum, and instead should take responsibility for themselves!
Working for 25 years in a 'well-paid job' with a husband who is also earning alot and little/no savings?! Instead, expecting the taxpayer to pick up the tab..Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
