Newspaper DVD's
I help run a local charity shop. Like all charity shops we rely on our supporters for goods. Recently someone told me that the free DVD's that newspapers have been issuing over the past few years could not be re-sold - because they were given away free it was an infringment of copywrite.
Now I appreciate that it is most unlikely that the copywrite people will mount a dawn raid on our shop BUT if it is technically illegal to sell the item I would rather ask for a donation.
Anyone know if there is any truth in the above statement? What are the rules anyway
Many Thanks
Kevin

In the charity shops i work in we all sell them. The discs do say not for re-sale but we have never been told were not allowed to sell them.
Thanks

not sure of the legalities but our local Oxfam shop has them on the counter with a "free but donations always welcome" sign next to them... Can't imagine anyone would take one without donating!0

A I understand it, books, CDs, DVDs etc. are licensed. If you look at the small-print at the beginning of a book, somewhere it should say "This book cannot be rented, lent or re-sold without the copyright holders permission" or something similar.
Libraries have a special licence for lending (and I believe they have to pay royalties each time a book/CD/DVD is borrowed).
Presumably all second-hand bookshops have a re-sale licence (or are illegal).
The law is an !!!. Rise above it. ;-)0 -
Oh, come on - how is "A-S-S" a swear-word that requires an automated triple-exclamation mark replacement?
The word derives from the latin "asinus" or the Old English "assa" for donkey.0
