Holiday Parking Costs

Having just returned from holiday spent mainly in Devon I thought it would be a good idea for us all to share how much we paid for parking whilst at the seaside. Then we can plan our next holidays!
We found that most beaches and their carparks around the Woolacombe, Devon area were privately owned and cost upto £5 per visit (not per day!). So, if you rented a place inland you could budget an extra £10 a day for parking and returning to your place for lunch.
So it would have been better for us to budget an extra £100 and stay within walking distance of the beach.
If stuck in Woolacombe, (fantastic beach) I would recommend the National Trust carpark at £4 per day with re-entry allowed!
Last year we found North Cornwall to be excellent value as you could use tickets for North Cornwall District Council carparks in any of their locations. Bargain! There was even a weekly ticket available from the machines.

We went to Hastings, and IIRC it was about £1/hour, could be expensive for a day! But there were a few empty roads about 15 mins walk (I guess) away from the coast by Hastings Travelodge, in fact I don't think it'd be a problem to park in their car park, there were no signs advising against it!
We visited Portsmouth one evening, that was quite expensive, on a par with Birmingham, about £4 for 3/4 hours I think, but well worth it!
Tenby in Wales (another trip!) was dirt cheap, about £1 for up to 4 hours.... and a real nice place to visit.0 -
i went camping in brixham (torbay) and found the local council car parks were about £5 a day, depending on where you were parking. the car park at babbacombe model village was the most expensive!
we got a evening ticket for the town carpark in brixham for £1 and that covered parking from 7pm until 10am, so was ideal for going to town for shopping etc as all the shops open late!!!
another good tip, if you want to go into paignton, drive to churston train station (steam trains) and get a ticket upto paignton, or down to kingsweir and dartmouth! we got a return ticket, went down to dartmouth for a few hours, had dinner and a ice cream, a ride accross the river on a ferry, and then a return journey to paignton for a few hours, and back to the car to come home! it cost under £10 each, including the ferry, so probably saved us a further £15 in parking and other costs that day!!!Debt at highest (april 2005) £19000
Current Debt (september 2006) £7600
Mortgage Pig = £31.43 and we move in on Friday (6/10/06)
:j £2 savings = £22 started 1/9/060
