Electrical Certificate Needed

Hi. Have not long since moved into a house which had a loft conversion part carried out. We have since applied to council to complete the work and one of the things we have been told we need is an "electrical certificate"? certifiying the electrical work (which had been carried out prior to us moving into house). Plans have all been drawn up and Building Warrant received.

Does anyone know of someone "reasonably priced" in Ayrshire who is approved by the council to carry out this job.

Appreciate any help/advice.

Someone who is approved and someone who is willing to certify anothers work unseen are two completely different people. I think you will struggle to find someone.

Hi Molerat. Thanks for reply. I may not have been clear with my original post. I'm not looking for someone merely to issue a certificate. I want to make sure the electrical work has been done to the required standard. Unfortunately the main body of the loft conversion was carried out, as far as I know, approximately 10 years ago and the chap who did the conversion (who was also the owner at that time) was a qualified joiner and it was one of his colleagues who carried out the electricaL work. We are now applying for retrospective planning permission and one of the requirements is a certficate certifying the electrical work.

Unless BC will be happy with a periodic it may well mean ripping it all out and starting again. How can anyone be happy that all the hidden wiring is ok. Speak to BC and ask excactly what they want. That said, how can anyone be certain that the rest of the wiring in your house is ok.
