End of payments advice/arrears

Hi
Can anyone please answer or give some advice on the following. My husband has been paying regularly through bank account directly to ex wife an agreed amount set by the CSA several years ago ( possibly around 2004 ) I understand this is a known as a private agreement. We have a paper trail as this is paid via bank accounts and named payment as maintenance.

Unfortunatley it was not always as straightforward as this and approx 5 -6 years ago after my husband had been paying cash his ex wife stated she had not received any money and the CSA claimed there was an arrears of approx 3k. The CSA got invloved and since then he has paid a private aggreement through the bank every month with no problem. The arrears was never part of this. ( Think they knew she was attempting to pull a fast one!! ) Around 2 - 3 years ago he got a letter from the CSA stating that they were withdrawing from case as a private arrangment was in place and any arrears on the account would be suspended. He has heard nothing from the CSA since this letter, he gets no statements or any other communication from them. So his and my concern is when he stops paying in the September of this year can his ex wife then go and claim the alledged arrears from those years ago even though the CSA did not make provision for it at the time and they suspended all arrears at least a couple of years ago?
Thanks in advance!
